ANTI-RAGGING CELL
In alignment with Supreme Court rulings, UGC guidelines, and State Government directives,
Gate Degree College adopts a strict ‘Zero-Tolerance Policy’ towards ragging. Any student
found guilty of ragging will face serious consequences in accordance with the law.
Ragging has devastated numerous lives and careers, being defined as an act that undermines
or is perceived to undermine an individual's dignity. It is strictly prohibited on campus,
and those found guilty of engaging in or facilitating ragging will face legal repercussions,
as this is classified as a criminal offense.
Vision
To foster a ragging-free environment by promoting democratic values, tolerance,
empathy, compassion, and sensitivity, thereby nurturing responsible citizens.
Mission
To establish a disciplined atmosphere by clearly communicating that ragging is
unacceptable on college premises.
Objectives
To prohibit any conduct that involves
teasing, mistreating, or being rude to a fresher or any student, whether through spoken
or written words or actions.
To raise awareness among students about the
serious consequences of ragging.
To maintain vigilant oversight to prevent
any instances of ragging.
To promptly address any reported ragging
incidents and take appropriate action as recommended by the committee.
The Anti-Ragging Cell will convene executive meetings three times a year to
ensure ongoing effectiveness.
Anti-Ragging Policy
In accordance with the UGC Regulation on Curbing the Menace of Ragging in Higher
Institutions, 2009, ragging includes the following behaviors:
Any actions or words intended to tease or
treat a fresher or another student rudely.
Rowdy or undisciplined conduct causing
annoyance, hardship, or fear.
Coercing students into acts they would not
ordinarily perform, generating feelings of shame or torment.
Disrupting the academic activities of other
students.
Exploiting freshers for academic tasks.
Financial extortion or undue financial
burdens imposed on students.
Physical abuse, including sexual and other
forms of assault.
Derogatory comments or actions through
various communication means, including emails and public insults.
Any form of bullying or mental abuse based
on race, religion, gender, or other personal attributes.
Punishments
Under the UGC Regulation on Curbing Ragging in Higher Educational Institutions, 2009, those
found guilty may face the following consequences, depending on the severity of the offense:
Warning or written apology.
Suspension from classes and academic
privileges.
Withdrawal of scholarships or other
benefits.
Barring from tests or examinations.
Withholding results.
Prohibition from representing the
institution at events.
Hostel suspension or expulsion.
Cancellation of admission.
Rustication for one to four semesters.
Expulsion from the institution, with a ban
on admission to other institutions for a specified period.
Powers and Functions of the Anti-Ragging Cell
To uphold and adhere to Supreme Court
directives and remain vigilant against ragging.
To inform students of the regulations and
possible actions against those engaging in ragging.
To address complaints from students,
conduct inquiries, and report findings to the Anti-Ragging Committee, along with
recommended penalties.
To oversee the process of obtaining student
undertakings as per regulations.
To conduct workshops raising awareness
about the menace of ragging.
To provide contact information for
individuals designated to receive complaints or distress calls.
To offer counseling services and enhance
awareness among students.
To implement all necessary measures to
prevent ragging on campus.
