Anti-Sexual Harassment Cell
The Anti-Sexual Harassment Cell at GATE Degree College is dedicated to fostering a healthy
and safe educational environment free from discrimination and bullying. With this goal in
mind, the Cell actively works to eliminate any form of sexual harassment. It is designed
with clear objectives to uphold a zero-tolerance policy toward such behavior. The Cell
addresses all complaints from students, faculty, and non-teaching staff with the utmost care
and attention, ensuring that issues are resolved as quickly as possible. The process for
filing, investigating, and resolving complaints is systematic and impartial, safeguarding
the integrity, privacy, and rights of everyone involved.
Anti-Sexual Harassment Policy
The policy of the Anti-Sexual Harassment Cell aims to protect against sexual harassment and
to prevent and address complaints related to it. This policy establishes clear expectations
for workplace behavior and provides a framework for reporting any concerns.
Objectives
To comply with the directives of the
Supreme Court, as well as the guidelines set by the UGC and the University of Madras,
regarding the implementation of policies against sexual harassment.
To develop a well-structured and practical
policy that promotes a healthy and respectful environment.
To identify the root causes of sexual
harassment and implement measures to prevent its occurrence.
To enhance awareness among all staff and
students about what constitutes sexual harassment.
To organize awareness programs and
campaigns aimed at educating all members of the college community about sexual
harassment and gender-based discrimination.
To ensure that all information related to
registered complaints, inquiries, and investigations is kept strictly confidential.
To minimize disturbances caused by
gender-based discrimination.
Definition of Sexual Harassment
Sexual harassment encompasses behaviors that directly or indirectly lead to the abuse of an
individual, including:
Unwelcome touching
Staring or leering
Suggestive comments or jokes
Intrusive questions regarding a person’s
private life or body
Insults or taunts based on sex
Sexually explicit physical contact
Sexually explicit emails, text messages, or
any form of communication
Activities of the Anti-Sexual Harassment Cell
To develop detailed plans for implementing
the policy, including both short-term and long-term actions.
To promptly address grievances raised by
students and staff members.
To conduct impartial investigations into
complaints and take appropriate action when necessary.
To periodically review and update policies
to reflect current practices within the Cell.
To raise awareness about sexual harassment
in professional settings.
To encourage students to report complaints
without hesitation in times of crisis.
To promote the visibility of the Cell’s
functions and ensure it remains easily accessible.
To date, no cases of sexual harassment have been reported at GATE Degree
College.
